Nominate a colleague for the Medical Student of the Year Award

About the Award

Presented in collaboration with the Medical Students’ Council of WA (MSCWA), the Medical Student of the Year Award celebrates a student who has shown exceptional commitment to leadership, advocacy, and service. It recognises the crucial role medical students play in shaping the future of the profession and includes a grant to support continued contributions to healthcare and community wellbeing.

The Award recognises a medical student [undergraduate/MBBS or postgraduate/MD], who has been outstanding in areas such as:  

  • Learning, Teaching, Mentoring and Education; 
  • Leadership and Advocacy; 
  • Medical Students’ and/or Doctors’ Wellbeing; and 
  • Community Service. 

The requirement is that the nominee will have made a significant contribution to the medical field and/or medical student community beyond that expected of students and their capacity. 

Nominations are to be submitted online through the nomination form below.

Nominations should be accompanied with adequate evidence supporting the criteria of learning, teaching, mentoring and education, leadership and advocacy, medical students’ and/or doctors’ wellbeing, community service, and must be supported by referees who can attest to the practice’s contribution.

  • Finalists must be a member of the AMA (WA).
  • The nominee must be a medical student at a WA medical school (UNDF, UWA or Curtin).
  • The information provided to support the nomination can be drawn from current and previous years although more recent activities may be given greater weight in the assessment phase.
  • Nominations close 5.30 pm Monday 30 June 2025.
  • Winner will be announced on Saturday 9 August at MEDBALL25.
  • All nomination information and material remains the property of the AMA (WA) Award Panel.
  • All nomination information and material can be utilised by the AMA (WA) to publicly recognise the award recipient and award finalists.
  • Information about the award finalists and winner may be published in the AMA (WA) bimonthly journal Medicus and/or Med e-Link and social media.
  • The decision of the selection panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
