Our fees have remained largely unchanged for the past five years, despite a compounded inflation rate of about 21%, and the significant disruptions caused by COVID-19.
Unlike other state AMAs, our members benefit from an expert in-house Industrial Relations team, which gives outstanding value and outcomes but comes at a significant cost.
We advocated strongly to have a fairer share of costs between the WA and Federal AMA, to keep your fees down. While we were outside the Federation for much of 2024, in line with members’ wishes, the AMA (WA) has signed a new agreement that will see us collect Federal AMA nominated fees until the end of 2025. Our Private and General Practice members again have access to the Fees list, which was a key concern of theirs. For transparency, we have split WA and Federal fees as separate items.
We’ve strengthened our governance by appointing two independent, non-medical Board Directors, and with the Board’s oversight, we are actively working to offset rising costs through commercial ventures and investments, but it will take time to see the full benefits of our concerted efforts.
For more than 125 years we have been fighting for better working conditions and the rights of doctors and patients in WA. It’s only with your continued support that we can carry on this vital work.
