Nominate a colleague for the Advocate of the Year Award

About the Award

The Advocate of the Year Award honours an outstanding individual who has demonstrated unwavering advocacy for doctors and the broader medical workforce. Whether through policy, leadership, or grassroots action, the recipient has driven meaningful change and helped create a stronger, more supportive healthcare environment.

The recipient will be chosen based on the following criteria: 

Advocacy Impact: The nominee must have demonstrated a significant and measurable impact in advocating for the rights, wellbeing, and professional development of doctors and the wider medical workforce. Their efforts should have resulted in tangible enhancements in working conditions, career opportunities, and overall satisfaction within the profession. 

Leadership and Collaboration: The nominee should demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities and a collaborative approach to advocacy, working effectively with stakeholders, organisations, and policymakers to drive positive change. Their ability to inspire and mobilise others towards a common goal is crucial. 

Innovation and Initiative: The nominee should have implemented innovative strategies or initiatives to address pressing issues facing doctors and the medical workforce. This could involve developing new programs, advocating for policy changes, or utilising technology to enhance support and resources for colleagues. 

Ethical and Professional Conduct: The nominee must uphold the highest standards of ethical behaviour and professionalism in their advocacy efforts, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and respect for diversity and inclusion. Their actions should reflect a commitment to fairness, equity, and the wellbeing of all members of the medical community. 

Enduring Impact: The nominee’s advocacy efforts should have a lasting and sustainable impact on the medical profession, leaving a legacy of positive change that extends beyond their immediate contributions. Their work should inspire ongoing dialogue, collaboration, and progress towards a healthier, more supportive environment for doctors and the wider medical workforce.

Nominations are to be submitted online through the nomination form below.

Nominations should be accompanied with adequate evidence supporting the criteria of advocacy, leadership & collaboration, innovation and initiative, ethical and professional conduct, enduring impact, and must be supported by referees who can attest to the nominee’s contribution.

  • Finalists must be a member of the AMA (WA).
  • Nominations close 5.30 pm Monday 30 June 2025.
  • Winner will be announced on Saturday 9 August at MEDBALL25.
  • All nomination information and material remains the property of the AMA (WA) Award Panel.
  • All nomination information and material can be utilised by the AMA (WA) to publicly recognise the award recipient and award finalists.
  • Information about the award finalists and winner may be published in the AMA (WA) bimonthly journal Medicus and/or Med e-Link and social media.
  • The decision of the selection panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
