Practice Management | AMA (WA)

Practice Management

The day to day running of a Private Practice is complex and operates within a constantly changing environment. The AMA provides support, information and advice to members in private practice.

Medical Practice Staffing

As part of its ongoing commitment to General Practice and Specialist Private Practices, the Association provides assistance to practices in Human Resources and Industrial Relations matters. The AMA has assisted practices in resolving disputes with their employees and has represented practices before Fair Work Australia where they have been the subject of Unfair Dismissal claims.

PBS

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) is administered by Medicare Australia. To improve your knowledge of the PBS, you can access PBS education online – suitable for both new and experienced providers.

Workcover

WorkCover WA provides information on its website specific to GPs. Information on Fees and Codes is also available.

Fees

The AMA encourages medical practitioners to determine their fees based on their own practice costs. To guide medical practitioners in determining their fees, and to assist those considering moving from bulk billing to patient billing, the AMA provides members with a range of tools and resources.

All medical practitioners are, of course, and should at all times regard themselves as being free, and indeed duty bound, to make their own judgement as to what they will charge for any service.

Medical practitioners should satisfy themselves in each individual case as to a fair and reasonable fee having regard to their own practice cost experience and the particular circumstances of the patient.

The AMA Fees list is now available from the newly launched AMA Fees List website. Financial AMA Members will continue to have unlimited, free access to the Fees List and all of the handy new features, tools and resources it provides.

To access the new AMA Fees List online, members will require a Federal username and password for ama.com.au.

If you haven’t already, contact Member Services at the Federal AMA on 1300 133 655 or by email memberservices@ama.com.au to set up your log in details.
