WA to host national launch of Crazy Socks 4 Docs 2025

Thursday May 15, 2025

We are delighted to announce that this year, Doctors’ Health Advisory Service WA (DHASWA) in collaboration with MDA National and the AMA (WA) will host the national launch event for Crazysocks4docs Day 2025 on Friday 6 June at Fiona Stanley Hospital. This event is a significant opportunity to advance the conversation around doctors’ mental health and we are proud to take part!

Crazy Socks 4 Docs was founded to raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by doctors and to reduce the stigma that still surrounds seeking support.

While the movement began with colourful socks as a symbol of solidarity, the focus has expanded to include systemic change and workplace-level solutions.

This year’s national launch will include a panel discussion focused on how hospitals and health services can take meaningful steps to support the wellbeing of doctors. The event is open to all healthcare professionals and students, with the option to attend in person or virtually.

The event will run from 11am to 1pm AWST at the Education Building at Fiona Stanley Hospital, with lunch and networking from 11am and the panel beginning at 12pm. Register your spot.

Panellists include Dr Geoff Toogood, founder of Crazy Socks 4 Docs; Associate Professor Helen Wilcox, Medical Director of DHASWA and Dean of Medicine at UWA; Associate Professor Jon Ho Chan, WA’s Chief Wellbeing Practitioner; and Dr Renae Long, President of the Stanley Medical Officers’ Society. Their discussion will centre on how organisations can move from raising awareness to implementing tangible, evidence-based improvements in workplace culture and mental health support.

Annual Competition to Support the Cause

To support the campaign, DHASWA is also running its annual Crazy Socks 4 Docs Competition. Doctors, medical students and healthcare organisations across WA are encouraged to participate by wearing bright or unusual socks and sharing photos on public social media in the lead-up to the event. Make sure to tag #crazysocks4docs / #dhaswa /@dhaswa and follow DHASWA on social media to be in with a chance.

By posting a photo and tagging DHASWA, participants will be in the running to win a $500 prize*, courtesy of the Crazysocks4docs Trust Foundation. All entries received before the event may be displayed during the national launch, with the winner drawn by Dr Geoff Toogood during the panel session at 12.50pm on 6 June.

*T&Cs apply. Entries must not promote alcohol, tobacco or any activity inconsistent with the aims and values of DHASWA or the Crazysocks4docs Trust Foundation.
