Organiser finds engaged members in Albany

Thursday April 17, 2025

Louise Dillon, our new Membership Industrial Organiser, recently spent three days in Albany meeting with doctors throughout Albany Health Campus to hear firsthand about the challenges they’re facing. It’s a crucial part of the AMA (WA)’s endeavours to support members across the State and meet them in their own environment.

It was a productive visit, with members speaking openly about ongoing issues, including resourcing pressures, difficulties accessing leave, and concerns around safe rostering.

There’s no doubt there are systemic issues that need to be addressed, but it was also clear just how engaged and solutions-focused our members are on the ground. Local representatives are stepping up in a big way, and the AMA (WA) will be working alongside them to establish a Joint Consultative Committee on site, so issues can be raised proactively and addressed constructively with management.

Louise will continue her regional visits in May and June, with trips planned to both Hedland and Kalgoorlie. She’s looking forward to meeting more members and hearing directly from you. She’ll also be running the AMA (WA) sessions at the upcoming Rural Health West Conferences in each town, so if you’re attending, make sure to say hello! Your insights and involvement are essential to building a stronger voice for doctors in our regions.
