Indigenous Health paediatric researcher wins 2022 Business Events Perth/AMA (WA) Aspire Award

Thursday November 3, 2022

The 2022 Business Events Perth/AMA (WA) Aspire Award has been presented to paediatric researcher Dr Bradley MacDonald. Dr MacDonald is currently working as a paediatric and neonates doctor, while completing a PhD in Indigenous Health in Rheumatic Heart Disease via the University of Western Australia and Telethon Kids Institute.

Business Events Perth CEO Gareth Martin said the $5,000 Business Events Perth/AMA (WA) Aspire Award would support Dr MacDonald’s attendance at the 8th World Congress of Paediatric Cardiology. It gives Dr MacDonald the opportunity to present his research on novel echocardiographic measures of Rheumatic Heart Disease in children, and develop further echocardiographic knowledge to apply here in Western Australia.

Mr Martin said: “Research and development emerging from Western Australia demonstrates that our great State is truly at the forefront in the medical sector.

“The benefits of attending in-person conferences are invaluable, and we are honoured to provide the opportunity to share these benefits with some of Western Australia’s brightest. Meeting face-to-face facilitates positive collaboration and networking opportunities.”

AMA (WA) member Dr MacDonald joins 10 other exceptional Western Australian researchers, academics and professionals who have today been announced as recipients of Business Events Perth’s 2022 Aspire Awards.

AMA (WA) President Dr Mark Duncan-Smith congratulated Dr MacDonald and lauded the Awards.

“All doctors understand the difference collaboration, openness to new ideas and international exposure can make to their practice. It’s invaluable in research and the kind of breakthroughs that eventually make a huge contribution to human health,” he said.

Successful Aspire Awards applicants who are outstanding candidates in their fields receive travel grants to support their attendance at international conferences, allowing the recipients to showcase their expertise on a global stage, network with like-minded professionals, and explore new avenues for collaboration, research, innovation and trade.

The Awards have once again demonstrated Western Australia’s excellence and positioning at the forefront of global innovation across a wide range of disciplines.

“We’re extremely honoured to be supporting our 2022 Aspire recipients to attend international conferences, where they will meet with other leaders in their fields and create opportunities to bring those conferences to Western Australia in the future, Mr Martin said.
