Monday June 12, 2023

Former AMA (WA) and AMA national President Associate Professor Rosanna Capolingua is among AMA (WA) members honoured in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours List, released today.

The honour recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement.

A GP in WA since 1985, Associate Professor Rosanna Capolingua, AM, was AMA (WA) president from 1998-2000, AMA national President from 2007–2009 and Chair of the AMA board from 2021–2022. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to patient care, to medicine, and as a role model to women.

AMA members appointed a Member of the Order of Australia, (AM) for service in a particular locality or field of activity, or to a particular group:

Dr David Blacker was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia, (AM), for significant service to medicine, and to neurological research.

Dr George Galvin was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia, (AM), for significant service to military history, to governance in sport, and to emergency medicine.

Dr Andrew Davies was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia, (OAM), for service worthy of particular recognition, for his service to medicine, and to the community.

AMA President Professor Steve Robson said the awards recognise the important and integral role of the medical profession in everyone’s lives.

“King Charles II’s first set of honours for Australians since his coronation has recognised a tremendous number of doctors and 53 of them are current or former AMA members,” Professor Robson said.

“I want to congratulate each and every doctor who has received an award and thank all of them for their dedication and commitment especially over what has been a difficult few years.

“There is an enormous amount of talent among Australia’s doctors. Their extraordinary technical skills, knowledge and care benefits not just their patients, but also the entire health system. I salute them on this special occasion.”

The AMA (WA) extends its best wishes to our past members and all other health advocates whose work was acknowledged in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours List.
