New Minister into the Bargain
Thursday May 15, 2025
Last year, Dr Nicole Burger (left) and A/Prof Astrid Arellano (second left) were AMA (WA) Bargaining Committee Representatives for the WA Health Industrial Agreement.
Dr Burger was a Child and Adolescent Health Service representative as a Registrar (Paediatrics) at Perth Children’s Hospital, while A/Prof Arellano represented North Metropolitan Health Service as a Consultant (Infectious Diseases) at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
This week, the pair, accompanied by AMA (WA) CEO Dr Bennie Ng, and Great Southern GP Registrar Dr Thomas Drake-Brockman, who attended online, met with Health and Mental Health Minister Hon Meredith Hammat MLA. It was a preliminary meeting to establish terms of reference for a review of telehealth oncall/recall arrangements.
The work doesn’t stop when an Industrial Agreement is struck with WA Health. In many ways it’s just the beginning, and requires the commitment of AMA (WA) Members and staff to ensure new conditions are established and followed through.
