What is the AMA doing for you?

The AMA (WA) works as a collective voice for the medical profession and also offers individual, tailored support to medical practitioners on a range of professional and business matters – such as advice on industrial and employment issues, contracts, dealing with complaints, ethical issues, Medicare audits, fees and support services.

The AMA (WA) Council of General Practice is an advocate on all matters that relate to general practice

The AMA (WA) Council of General Practice is particularly active on key matters of concern to general practitioners in Western Australia.  It advocates on behalf of general practitioners, makes submissions on behalf of the profession and lobbies for improvements to health and general practice, 

Advocacy

The AMA (WA) Council of General Practice is an advocate on all matters that relate to general practice.

Current issues that the AMACOGP is working on for general practice include:

  • Improved Medicare rebates for general practitioners
  • Better conditions of employment and recognition for general practitioners as specialists
  • Support for rural general practitioners and appropriate funding for telehealth initiatives
  • Lobbying for appropriate funding for rural health services in country Western Australia.

Submissions

The AMA (WA) Council of General Practice, representing the key issues of Western Australian General Practitioners, and together with the Federal AMA, makes submissions to State and Federal Governments on all policy initiatives affecting General Practice. The AMA (WA) Council of General Practice also makes submissions to various bodies including the State Government.
