The AMA (WA) has called for new Premier Mark McGowan to back a Federal Government proposal that will prevent unvaccinated children from attending childcare centres or preschool.

“The Prime Minister has called for nationally consistent laws on this issue and we fully support his proposal,” AMA (WA) President Dr Andrew Miller said today.

“This measure is already in place in NSW, Victoria and Queensland, and WA should be no different.

“WA has some of the worst vaccination rates in the country, and any measure that will see more children protected against preventable diseases must be pursued.

“We urge the new State government to stay tough on vaccination.” Dr Miller said.

Why I Joined the AMA (WA)...
"It is my hope that we can tackle the challenges our profession faces, united as one. If we dislike our working hours, our pay, gender inequality or low training opportunities, we can change these together. As a nurse in my previous life, I know that when a profession stands as one, people listen."
