2017 Dr YES Charity Golf Tournament

The AMA (WA) would like to thank all those who helped make the 2017 Dr YES Charity Golf Tournament a resounding success.

Held at the exclusive Royal Perth Golf on Friday 3 November, the 2017 Dr YES Charity Golf Tournament was decisively won by the Bankwest Team 1, with a return to the winner’s podium by former AMA (WA) President, Dr Richard Choong, who was joined by Scott Wallace, Scott Bruce and Steve Dergen.

At the end of a very hard day on the course, Joondalup Health Campus Team D, made up second place, with Nathan James, Merlin Nicholas, Neville Maiden and Kevin Hartley taking the honours.

Third place went to St John of God Healthcare Team B, made up of Michael McComish, Richard Clarke, Michael Devine and Mel Slatyer.

Officially welcomed to the evening’s activities by AMA (WA) President Dr Omar Khorshid, who then morphed into the MC for the night, the assembled diners were reminded that they were there to raise money for one of the most important services run by the AMA – Dr YES.

“Since its earliest days, this Golf Day has been pivotal in raising a substantial amount for Dr YES, which then offers school kids health advice, especially with regard to alcohol, drugs and sexual health,” Dr Khorshid said.

Once again, Associate Professor Rosanna Capolingua invited Dr YES Co-ordinators up to the stage, who then ran a short version of the popular game “Cards Against Humanity” – but with a medical and sexual health bent.

The night then continued onto the auction for a vast array of prestigious items, including travel, wine and exclusive event tickets courtesy of regular AMA (WA) Golf Dinner auctioneer James Paxton.

Tradition was followed and James completed the very successful auction with the sale of a guitar signed and played by famed Australian musician Ian Moss at the 2017 AMA Gala Dinner.

Once again the AMA (WA) thanks all those involved, and looks forward to next year’s event which marks the 25th Anniversary of fundraising for Dr YES. Join us again on Friday 26 October, 2018.

Why I Joined the AMA (WA)...
"It is my hope that we can tackle the challenges our profession faces, united as one. If we dislike our working hours, our pay, gender inequality or low training opportunities, we can change these together. As a nurse in my previous life, I know that when a profession stands as one, people listen."
