Traineeship Information

Traineeship Definition

A Traineeship is a structured program, usually for a nominal duration of twelve months or more, which is available either on a part-time or full-time basis, and generally in non-trade related areas.

Eligibility

Trainees may be eligible for the Traineeship if they have been employed less than 3 months full time (35+ hrs/week) or 12 months part time (20 – 34 hrs/week) with their current employer , work at least 20 hours each week, and do not hold any formal qualifications of a Certificate III or above in a related area (some exclusions apply).

The Youth Skills Initiative is a program set up by the Department of Education and Training for employees (aged between 15-24) who fall outside the above eligibility criteria. Please contact AMA Training Services for more details.

Training Delivery

On-The-Job Training

Trainees will receive training and learning resources to help them achieve the competencies. Trainees are assigned a Trainer/Workplace Assessor to assist them during the Traineeship.

Off-The-Job Training

Is available through various medium including via the internet / email communications with a trainer, in a class room or on a one to one basis at the workplace.

Skills Recognition

Trainees may apply and be credited with Skills Recognition (RPL/RCC) for competencies, depending on previous experience and prior knowledge.

Assessment

A Workplace Assessor will mentor, support and assess the trainee during the Traineeship. The assessment process includes a combination of verbal questioning & discussion, demonstration, gathering a portfolio of evidence, assignments and employer support. Trainee's progress throughout the Traineeship is recorded in a Training Record Book, which is progressively signed off as the trainee achieves competency in each area.

Incentives

Commonwealth Incentives of up to $4000* are available to the employer if eligible. Financial incentives are funded through the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training. Some additional eligibility apply. Please contact your New Apprenticeships Centre for further details.

Training Fees

As a requirement under the Department of Education and Training Fees and Charges Policy Guidelines, a traineeship fee is required to be charged for trainees undertaking a traineeship (School based trainees exempt). Concession rates apply. Please contact AMA Training Services or Health Training Australia for more information.

Qualification

On successful completion of these Traineeships, trainees will receive the Nationally Recognised Certificate.
