Certificate III in Business

Overview

This Business Traineeship is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need when working in administrative roles. It is a form of nationally recognised training that is widely accepted by industry as an effective way to develop qualified administrative employees.

The Certificate III in Business consists of the following competencies:

Core Units

  • BSBCMN301A: Exercise initiative in a business environment
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to exercise initiative and influence others in a business environment. It includes making decisions in accordance with organisational requirements.
  • BSBCMN302A: Organise personal work priorities and development
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to organise own work schedules, monitor and obtain feedback on work performance, and maintain required levels of competence.
  • BSBFLM303B: Contribute to effective workplace relationships
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to develop, establish and maintain effective workplace relationships and networks. It covers the activities of communication and representation.
  • BSBCMN304A: Contribute to personal skill development and learning
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to support own learning and skill development needs in the context of an organisation's goals and objectives.
  • BSBCMN305A: Organise workplace information
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to gather, organise and apply workplace information in the context of an organisations work processes and information management systems.
  • BSBCMN306A: Produce business documents
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to produce various business documents. It includes the skills and knowledge required to select and use a range of functions on a computer application.
  • BSBCMN307A: Maintain business resources
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to determine, administer and maintain resources and equipment to complete a variety of tasks.
  • BSBCMN308A: Maintain financial records
    This unit covers the maintenance of financial records for a daily business. It includes activities such as maintenance of daily financial records, including reconciling debtors and creditors systems and preparing and maintaining a general ledger and preparing a trial balance. It also includes activities associated with the monitoring of cash control for accounting purposes.
  • BSBCMN309A: Recommend products and services
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to provide advice and information within an organisation about the development and distribution of its products and services.
  • BSBCMN310A: Deliver and monitor a service to customers
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to identify customer's needs and monitor a service provided to customers.
  • BSBCMN311A: Maintain workplace safety
    This unit is concerned with OHS responsibilities of employees with supervisory responsibilities to implement and monitor the organisation's Occupational Health and Safety policies, procedures and programs in a small team to meet legislative requirements.
  • BSBCMN312A: Support innovation and change
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to contribute ideas for improved work practices and to support the implementation of innovative work practices to effect change.
  • BSBCMN313A: Maintain environmental procedures
    This unit covers the maintenance and monitoring of the organisation's environmental policies and procedures as an integral part of the organisation's business operations.Those who work under instruction but have some autonomy in the workplace should undertake this unit.
  • BSBCMN314A: Utilise a knowledge management system
    This unit specifies the outcomes required to access and use a knowledge management system, and contribute to monitoring, reviewing and improving a knowledge management system and work practices.
  • BSBCMN315A: Work effectively with diversity
    This unit specifies the outcomes required to recognise individual differences and respond sensitively, and work effectively with individual differences.
  • BSBCMN316A: Process customer complaints
    This unit specifies the outcomes required to handle formal and informal negative feedback and complaints from customers.
  • BSBCMN317A: Meet customer needs & expectations
    This unit specifies the outcomes required to deal with complex, longterm customer relationships at an operational level.
  • BSBCMN318A: Write simple documents
    This unit specifies the outcomes required to plan, draft and review a basic document before writing the final version. It covers the writing of basic business documents for print or electronic communication, for inclusion in reports.
  • BSBCMN319A: Apply advanced first aid
    This unit specifies the outcomes required to provide advanced first aid in emergency situations, manage the incident and response, and communicate with others invoved in the treatment or response. Advanced treatment options are applied.

Requirements

12 units to achieve the qualification:

  • 8 units from the Common Business units (listed above), including BSBCMN311A.
  • 4 units from the Business Services Training Package or any other endorsed Training Package, of which a minimum of 2 units must be from a Certificate III qualification and 2 units may be from a Certificate II or IV qualification.
