Hospital Ratings 2004

For the first time in Western Australia the DIT committee conducted a hospital rating survey and audit to identify positive and negative aspects of different hospitals in order to raise standards, ensure compliance with the AMA Industrial Agreement and to enable junior doctors to make informed judgements when choosing rotations. Areas incorporated into the survey included human resources, leave, term allocations, education/supervision, rosters, hospital administration, safe hours, security, common rooms, accommodation and general facilities.

A huge number of survey responses were received from DITs, which resulted in a number of key areas being identified. Most of the hospitals have worked closely with their RMO Societies and the DIT committee to address key areas of concern. For example the AMA worked closely with Sir Charles Gairdner to implement a new policy of approving annual leave applications, and both Fremantle and Royal Perth Hospitals made improvements to the Doctors Common Room (Blue Room).
