WA doctor to assist medical indemnity review
November 28, 2005
The AMA (WA) has welcomed the appointment of Dr Andrew Miller as a member
of the Medical Indemnity Policy Review Panel announced by Federal Health
Minister Tony Abbott.
Dr Miller, who is President of WA-based MDA National, will be the representative
of the medical indemnity insurance industry.
"Medical indemnity insurance is a major issue for doctors throughout
Australia and having someone with Dr Miller's experience on the review
panel is very reassuring," said AMA (WA) President Dr Paul Skerritt.
He said the local medical profession had also been relieved that the
WA Parliament recently passed the Limitations Bill 2005 which addressed
important areas of indemnity reform affecting doctors in this State.
"The legislation was promised in early 2003 at the height of the indemnity
crises in WA, so it's a relief to see the reforms finally approved by
Parliament," said Dr Skerritt.
